2013: Another Amazing Year!

one salon life2013 was another exceptional year for One Salon. It was filled with dynamic growth and excitement for both our business and our One Salon family.  Here are some of the highlights…no pun intended.

On April 6, we launched onesalonlife.com, our blog site and boldest marketing achievement.  This amazing site has the same easy to use features like ‘on-line booking’, but now integrates all our social media platforms providing exciting written, photographic and video content. It showcases the writing talents of many of our staff members including our Health & Wellness editor, Andrea McLaughlin, as well as Fashion editors, Abbey Nichols and Arsha Zaya. For those new to One Salon, it’s a peek into our world.

one salon life customers2013 also saw the inception of an exciting new marketing partnership with Wish Upon A Teen, a national non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing resources, time and opportunities to teenagers facing physical or mental health challenges. In October, One Salon was honored to hold our First Annual Wish Upon A Teen Salon Day, opening our doors and arms to 12 awe-inspiring teens battling serious medical conditions.  The teens were smothered with love by the One Salon staff, receiving manicures, haircuts, highlights, clip in extensions, shampoos, head massages, blow outs  & styles and a catered lunch. It was by far the most rewarding thing One Salon has ever been a part of and we look forward to partnering with Wish Upon A Teen for as long as they will have us.

ladies nightThis past year also saw the birth of our First Annual One Salon Boutique Ladies Night. In November, we welcomed in over 3o local artists and crafters displaying their collections for the holiday shopping season. Wine and hors d’oeuvres were served from our friends at Enzo’s Catering and made for an amazing evening of shopping and schmoozing. In 2014 One Salon looks forward to continuing our support of local Michigan artists in our in-salon boutique.

The salon itself got a facelift in October of 2013…and it needed it. Amazing what 3 years of wear and tear can do to a facility. We completely repainted in a new, modern color scheme and we added new couches, chairs and artwork.  Expect more upgrades in 2014 as just like the beauty industry, we are constantly evolving.

joel1Maintaining our commitment to advanced education, One Salon played host to many special guest educators in 2013. In April, TIGI’s Central American Talent Art Director, Joel Torres visited. His role with TIGI takes him all over the Caribbean, South America and the United States where he gives educational seminars and presents his work as a TIGI Platform Artist on the stages of industry conventions. Joel shared his knowledge and presented his work to our staff of designers via a hands-on cutting class. In June, One Salon was honored to have Moroccanoil Educator Michael Beltran Cohen stop by the salon. Michael was flown in exclusively to teach the One Salon staff his latest Red Carpet Styling techniques; a class only taught at the Moroccanoil Academy. In August, One Salon was lucky enough to have the amazing Gina Sheehy address the staff. Gina is the Director of Business Training and Key Relationship Management for KAO USA Goldwell KMS. And in October, One Salon welcomed award winning Salon Manager and National Schwarzkopf Platform Artist Nikki Pittam to town to teach an advanced cutting and styling class.

Jill42013 also was an exciting and inspiring year professionally for our team. Jill Stanizeski, Ali Slavin, Morgan Fachinni and Abbey Nichols all graduated from our education program and began their transition from assistant to hair designer. Our senior staff continued to inspire and lead with their unwavering professionalism. And…One Salon also shipped off some of our young, superstar talent for advanced training. In October, Ashley Malinowski and Abby Duncan traveled to Dallas where they starred at the TIGI Academy and Amy Gibson and Brooke Shrauben attended Goldwell’s ColorZoom (it’s like the Super Bowl for hair stylists) in California. We also welcomed in some new faces. Andrea Favot, Cassie Zetz, Heather Mueller, Rebecca Larocque, Mary Lowery, Shannon Cockfield, Melissa Mason, Marielle Scalisi, Jaime Fulks and Alexandra Zureki all joined the One Salon team in 2013.

j9llandeAlthough this past year was a thrilling year professionally for One Salon and our staff, our mantra IS and ALWAYS will be family first. Soooo…I would be remiss if I did not mention all the new additions to our staff’s families. 2013 welcomed to the world baby Easton (Lauren Lea), baby Raymond (Candice Schabestiel), baby Silas (Morgan Fachinni), baby Graylen (Britni Mariucci) and last but certainly not least, twins Kate and Hayden (Allie Bendernagel). And on the horizon for 2014, new humans from Kristie Miller, Amanda Lyman, Stacey Moore and Britni. We always joke, don’t drink the water at One Salon or you might end up pregnant. I’m beginning to think it’s not a joke.

2013 was a magnificent year for One Salon and 2014 is shaping up to deliver even more excitement. To our amazing clients…thank you for your continued support. Your loyalty does not go unnoticed and you are very much a party of our family. To our owner, Janine Exline…all of this would not be possible without your love, support, patience and unwavering belief in our vision. 2013 is dedicated to your mother Ann, who instilled all these wonderful traits in you.  She is always with us.
