One of the aspects of the beauty industry that they regularly advise me on is product knowledge. Now, it’s not necessarily my role to advise clients on the benefits of certain products, however, if I’m going to write about “products we love”, I better have a general understanding of why a color-save shampoo is more beneficial for your hair than Prell. And it is!
Today we are going to talk about heat protectants. Any designer worth their weight in salt is going to tell you how important it is to use a heat protectant on your hair. Especially if using a flat iron, curling iron or a blow dryer is a regular part of your daily hair regiment. And for most clients, it is. Every time you use a “hot tool” on your hair, you run the risk of damaging it. And over time, if you are not using a heat protectant, you most definitely will. Think of it this way, you wouldn’t grab a pot out of a 450 degree oven without an oven mitt, so why would you expose your hair to that much heat without a heat protectant. It’s like an oven mitt for your hair. See what I did there? Oven mitt…for your hair…hah! That’s a good one me thinks. OK, sorry, I digress.
The heat protectant that we endorse at One Salon is Kerastase Ciment Thermique. It is a heat-activated, reconstructor milk that helps to protect and repair hair from the stress of heat styling. Hair fibers are smoothed from the root to tip, leaving it feeling strong, supple and flowing with a long lasting shine. OK, OK, that’s what Kerastase’s marketing propaganda says, but does this stuff work? Lets ask our resident Kerastase expert, One Salon Designer, Cristina Gherghinis. “Oh yes, absolutely it works. I tell all my clients that it is the most important product for their hair,” Cristina asserts in her awesome Romanian accent. “If you don’t wash your hair, the protection will last for up to 4 days. It also has “vita ciment” (synthetic protein) technology that rebuilds hair and repairs damage and split ends.”
