things I’ve learned running a hair salon: Sham? Poo?

If there is only one thing that your One Salon hair designer could impart to you in regard to hair care, it would be to use a good shampoo and conditioner. But what does that mean?  There are so many options. Why should I listen to my hair designer?  Surely the celebrity endorsed products on TV must work better…and they are cheaper. I mean after all, the smartest scientists in Paris have specially formulated these products and they promise that my hair will look like J-Lo’s after just one shampoo! Well, companies will say anything to sell you their products. And for the most part, what they say is a sham and their products will leave your hair looking like poo. Get what I just did there…’sham’…’poo’…hah!

There is no simple answer because everyone’s hair is unique. There are different densities and textures, there’s color treated hair, gray hair, blonde hair, oily hair, dry hair, damaged hair, etc, etc, etc. Although it is very important to use a good shampoo, one void of harsh, damaging chemicals, it is just as important to use the right shampoo designed for your hair type. And who better than your hair designer to advise you. They know your hair better than anyone! It’s their job! It’s what you pay them for!

I know what some of you cynics are thinking. You just want to sell us more products at salon prices and squeeze more money out of us. I can buy Pantene for half the cost and my hair will look just fine. Nonsense. Pantene contains panthenol which does make your hair shine, but also coats it with a waxy build up which prevents healthy hair follicle growth on the scalp. I could go on and on about Tresemme and Herbal Essence  and a slew of others. The research is out there, just jump on the internet and check it out for yourself. All of these drugstore shampoos and conditioners contain chemcials that can damage your hair.  Moreover, why in the world would you spend $150 at One Salon and then go home and use a $5 bottle of shampoo that strips away the color you just paid for in one wash?

Consult your One Salon designer and they will advise you on the proper shampoo and conditioner for your hair. Furthermore, when you purchase your hair care products from us, we get reward points from the companies that we use to invest in advanced training, so our staff can keep you looking your best.
