Wish Upon A Teen

Wish Upon A Teen is a national non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing resources, time and opportunities to teenagers with developmental or medical conditions. As we all know, the teen years are filled with challenges of self-identity, confidence and confusion about the future. The sometimes turbulent waters leading from childhood to adulthood can be very stressful. Teenagers facing physical or mental health challenges have an especially difficult time coping. The combination of normal teenage stress with the impact of chronic illness on self esteem can make the normal transition to adulthood difficult, delayed or impossible.  Wish Upon A Teen aims to make a difference in the lives of these challenged teens.

This past Sunday, One Salon was honored to partner with Wish Upon A Teen to put on a Salon Day for a very special group of teenage girls suffering from debilitating diseases. These youngsters were given the royal treatment by the One Salon staff. “Basically, whatever they wanted,” smiles Craig Posegay, General Manager of One Salon. “When I was approached by Wish Upon A Teen and learned about what they do, I was so moved. Of course we would host it…it would be an honor to donate our time, facility and service. Putting a smile on these girls faces is the least we can do.”

The teens were smothered with love by the One Salon staff, receiving manicures, haircuts, highlights, clip in extensions, shampoos, head massages and blow outs  & styles. “I’m so proud of my staff. When they heard about this event, they embraced it with open arms.” added One Salon Owner Janine Exline. “We spend so much time here, cuz we love our clients and we love what we do, and we don’t give it a second thought. But to be able to provide these same services for a group of teenagers that were so appreciative and happy, and to see the impact it made on them, just warmed all our hearts. It was such a rewarding experience for everyone involved.”

The girls were also treated to a pizza lunch featuring an unbelievable array of dessert options including a chocolate fountain. “The chocolate fountain was a big hit, but I think they were more excited about the pizza.” laughs Posegay. The day ended with each teen receiving an amazing gift bag filled with t-shirts, knit hats, scarves, earrings, necklaces, hair pins, gift cards and more. “We wanted the girls to leave with something. We reached out to our boutique vendors for donations and their generosity was overwhelming,” Posegay added. “We even had two members of our staff hand knit hats and scarves for all the girls. I was just floored with the outpouring of love from everyone.”

The One Salon Wish Upon A Teen Salon Day will now become an annual event. “I can’t thing of a better organization to partner with,” says Exline. “We will definitely do this event every year and I just want to thank everyone who made this day so special.  I’m so glad the teens had a great time.  They were so inspiring.”
